Importance of a Bridal Trial/Consultation
This month I thought I would share with you the importance of having a bridal trial/consultation. Bridal hair and makeup need forward planning. It is one of the most important days of your life and one where you want to feel as beautiful and perfect as you can be. Having a hair and makeup artist turn up on your doorstep of the morning of your wedding day, not have met them and not knowing what they are going to be making you look like, would be the most riskiest thing for you to do. So a bridal trial/consultation is highly recommended.
It is my job as a makeup and hair artist, to enhance your natural beauty and listen to it your likes and dislikes. Our goal together is to achieve a look and style that you are comfortable with. It is your big day and you need to feel confident and happy with everything you are wearing including your makeup. The trial is the place to discuss this and try out things.
What happens at a bridal trial/consultation?
When you have a hair and makeup trial/consultation with me, I allow up to 3 hours. This is because we sit down together and have a chat. We chat about your wedding day, what your wedding colour scheme and theme is. The style and colour of your wedding dress, bridesmaids dresses. What colours you are having in your flowers. We talk about your hair type, whether you have had it curled or styled before, what condition it is in how thick or thin it might be. We discuss hair styles, what you like and dislike. We look at pictures of hair styles you have in mind for your wedding day, asking are you wearing a veil, a tiara, flower etc.
We move on to discuss your makeup, how much do you normally wear, what sort of makeup do you wear when you go out to a special occasion. We talk about your skin and its condition, I will usually recommend a skin care regime and facials, as the better your skin condition is the better the makeup will look. We discuss any concerns about your makeup look, what you maybe worried about. Ask do you wear contact lenses, are you considering a spray tan, how do you feel about wearing flash lashes.
This all happens before anything practical so that I get a real feel for what you are requiring. Then we get on to the styling usually starting with the hair first so that by the end of the trial you can see both completed. On the reveal we can tweak the makeup and hair but 98% of the time the bride is pleased with what she sees. One thing that the bride has to bear in mind at the trial, is that her hair and makeup may look a bit out of place in her ordinary clothes but on the day when she has her dress on, her hair and her makeup will complete her image. We then take pictures to remind me of what we have done. However, my job is not complete until I have a written record and face chart of all the makeup products and hair product used. So on the wedding day I can recreate exactly what we did at the trial and the bride can have complete confidence in knowing what she will look like.
