Makeup Artist for the Bridal Party
Should the whole bridal party have a Makeup Artist to apply their makeup? Over the years as a Makeup Artist I have had the privilege of being part of many weddings. Some I have just applied makeup to the bride, others bride and bridesmaids and at others the whole bridal party including groom’s mum. The question is apart from the bride do the rest of the party really need a makeup artist to do their makeup?
Often on the wedding morning I find myself listening to comments being made about makeup especially if I am only there for the bride. Things like “i have such dark circles under my eyes” and the answer being “use some Touche Eclat” or “I don’t normally wear eyeliner so I don’t need any do I?” and the answer from another person “no it doesn’t matter you don’t need to wear eyeliner if you are not used to it”. If I was asked, my answer would be, addressing the dark circles person, you need a concealer with illuminating properties. Touche Eclat is an illuminator that deflects the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles it does not conceal, so it won’t hide those dark circles. I would also recommend wearing eyeliner, even if you don’t usually wear it, because it defines your eyes. When you have your photo taken your eyes will show up. Without eyeliner it will look like you are wearing no makeup. There are so many misconceptions about applying makeup. If you are going to a special occasion and want to apply your own makeup, I would recommend you do some research and practice your makeup skills. There is also the situation where some bridesmaids may be good at applying their own makeup whilst others may not know what they are doing. In the pictures this will be noticeable as a bridesmaid will stand out from another, this not a good look for the photos or for self esteem.
As a Makeup Artist I would be recommending that the whole bridal party has their makeup done. Everyone is uniquely beautiful with different skin types, different shaped eyes, lips and face shapes. As a makeup artist I have knowledge, experience and expertise when it comes to makeup. For a wedding in particular you have to take into account that photos are going to be taken. Bridesmaids and mothers of the bride will be in many of the photos so their makeup needs to define their features and last all day. I know how to do this without it looking heavy and over applied. The majority of bridesmaids wear the same colour dress and so having their makeup done gives them a uniformity that ties in with the brides colour scheme, yet each ones makeup is individual to them. So they may not all wear the same lipstick but it will be a similar shade to others and one that suits them. Mother of Brides often require specialist makeup products, less being more in most cases but also being defined. It is nice to tie the makeup in with their outfit and I will often get comments like “I am so glad I chose to have my makeup done as I could not have got it looking like this”
Lastly not only will you have uniformity, expertly applied makeup that will look good in all your photos, just being pampered and looked after on a morning of a very special day, when all the lead up has been manic and very busy. Having your makeup done, just gives you time to breathe and relax before all the arrangements that have been organised for long time come together.
